Lead poisoning doesn’t sound very twenty-first century does it? It comes from a build up of lead from repeated exposures to small quantities and the symptoms involve fatigue, headaches and abdominal pain. Lead can be present in your domestic water supply if your home has water supplied through lead pipes. Lead pipe replacement is one way of having the reassurance of an uncontaminated drinking water. This involves replacing the old lead supply pipe with a durable, plastic service pipe.
You can check the service pipe in the kitchen, usually under the kitchen sink. You should be able to tell if it is lead or not. Unpainted lead pipes are dull grey in appearance. The pipe’s surface is soft and if you scrape it gently with a sharp edge you’ll reveal a shiny metal colour.
We can carry out lead water pipe replacement using trenchless technology that minimises the disruption to your property. It’s also very cost effective in terms of time and manpower. Trenchless technology involves us drilling underground holes. We then use these to pull the new pipework through.
It’s fairly easy to check if your home has lead pipes, but if in doubt seek professional advice. If you have any concerns about the current quality of your drinking water because you have lead pipework, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re happy to come and inspect your property and, where necessary, provide you with a full plan for replacing your old lead pipes.
